  • OCEANSIDE’S SUNSHINE BROOKS THEATRE PRESENTS ERIC MARCHESE IN RAGTIME PIANO CONCERT

    Oceanside’s Sunshine Brooks Theatre presents Eric Marchese in Ragtime Piano Concert at 8:00 PM, August 29, 2009, 217 North Coast Highway, Oceanside, CA. Tickets $15.00, available on-line at http://www.sunshinebrookstheatre.org or Call our box office at 760-529-9140.
    Marchese’s performance will feature many of the outstanding ragtime pieces from the year 1909, including all six of Scott Joplin’s outstanding compositions from that year as well as the rags of such composers as James Scott, Joseph Lamb, Charles L. Johnson, Tom Turpin, May Aufderheide and more. The special-event performance is a benefit for the Sunshine Brooks Theatre.
    Marchese promises to use the evening to provide audiences with a historical survey of ragtime music covering many regions and styles of this beloved American musical form, which boomed between the 1890s and the late 1910s. His fun-filled program will include such pieces as “Bowery Buck”, “That Poker Rag”, “Apple Jack”, “Grace and Beauty”, “Euphonic Sounds”, “Meet Me To-Night in Dreamland” and “Solace – A Mexican Serenade.” A prolific ragtime composer, Marchese will also feature some of his own works.

    MJMRecords was formed in 2001 to help the homeless in Oceanside, CA. The purpose was to use music and artwork to help get people off the streets and into rehab. Join us to financially support those who are in need through this fundraiser and enjoy music of special guests Todd and Katy, Bob Bennett, and Michael James Moore.
    Todd and Katy are regulars of North County’s churches. Together, Katy and Todd offer a program of songs done as a duo. The repertoire is primarily comprised of Todd’s original songs. The songs are arranged to fit a quiet, folksy sound, which is typically a simple guitar and two-harmony vocals.
    Singer/songwriter Bob Bennett’s album “Matters of the Heart” was named “Album of the Year” by Contemporary Christian Music magazine, and named one of the “Top 20 Christian Albums of All Time.”
    California born Michael James Moore is a unique artist who reaches out to the audience with the intricate guitar work and smooth vocals. The triumph of God’s will in people’s lives permeates his songs.

    8th ANNUAL OCEANSIDE MUSIC FESTIVAL, OCT 7 – 25

    October is “National Art and Humanities Month“. Here is your chance to enjoy great music and support our local youth musicians! The 8th annual OMFest, Oceanside Music Festival – sponsored by Oceanside Cultural Arts Foundation, members of “Americans for the Arts” – opens with a gala and follows with five great concerts this October. This event is held each year to raise funds for performing artists from local high schools of North San Diego county. Oceanside Music Festival will present a variety of performances including big band, high school showcase, liturgical music (see schedule below) – all taking place between October 7 – 25.

    MISSION: OCAF and OMFest believe in mentoring young musicians, supporting artists, music groups, and arts organizations. We believe in supporting both the student and the professional artist, with the goals to aim high, educate and entertain all races of people, cultures, ethnic backgrounds, and artistic styles of expression.

  • 1-ST ANNUAL OCEANSIDE INTL FILM FESTIVAL, OCT 15 – 18, 2009

    Oceanside Cultural Arts Foundation (OCAF) presents the 1st Oceanside International Film Festival on 15-18 October, 2009. This inaugural event is an opportunity for independent film makers to have their work screened and judged. It will also give the film buffs a chance to view local and international films. OIFF’s first year plans are to keep it small and intimate for our first year with films screenings from students local to San Diego, India, and Los Angeles area. The festival will also be offering workshops for filmmakers on various subjects, including music, films, financing, packaging and distribution. Film categories include: features, documentaries, animation, music videos, student films, and sports.

  • Seniors Wanted – Auditions For a Mystery Thriller To Be Held – Dec 7 & 8 by New Vision Theatre Co (Oside)

    Downtown Oceanside’s New Vision Theatre Company is holding auditions for a mystery thriller “Postmortem”, a Sherlock Holmes type whodunit, which is to be staged at Sunshine Brooks Theatre from January 29 to February 14, 2010, Fridays & Saturdays at 7:30 p.m., and Sundays at 2:00 p.m. (except on Super Bowl Sunday at 12:30 pm). The theater is looking for 4 males: 2 in their 50’s (one for a lead role of an actor “who has played Sherlock Holmes for 30 years”; the other, of course, Watson) and 2 males in their 20’s – 30’s. Also seeking 4 females: 1 in her 50’s, and 3 in the 20’s – 30’s age category.

    All roles are open. Cold reading from script will be required. No monologues will be necessary, but welcomed. Although it is Sherlock, British accents are not needed.     Downtown Oceanside’s New Vision Theatre Company presents a family-friendly mystery thriller “Postmortem”, a Sherlock Holmes type whodunit, from January 29 to February 14, 2010, Fridays & Saturdays at 7:30 p.m., and Sundays at 2:00 p.m. (except Feb 7 on Super Bowl Sunday at 12:30 pm) at Sunshine Brooks Theatre, 217 N Coast Highway, Oceanside.

    Synopsis:
    It is April 1922 and the cast of William Gillette’s latest Broadway revival of “Sherlock Holmes” has assembled for a weekend of relaxation at his magnificent medieval castle on a bluff overlooking the Connecticut River. For entertainment, actor-manager, playwright and heart-throb William Gillette, “best known for his 30-year portrayal of the famous crime sleuth Sherlock Holmes”, has arranged a séance. Now the scene is set for his greatest role. Someone is trying to be “a villain” at this gathering, and he suspects it is one of his guests. Intrepid, eccentric and wildly romantic, Gillette plans to solve the case himself à la Sherlock Holmes.

    Spend a romantic Valentine’s Day with your loved ones at Oceanside Museum of Art’s “More That’s Amoré!” on Sunday, February 14, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. Enjoy classic love songs from operatic arias to Broadway show tunes along with bubbly champagne and delicious chocolate confections.
